14th METU International ELT Convention

The Department of Basic English, in collaboration with the Department of Modern Languages, is proud to announce that the 14th METU International ELT Convention will take place on 10-12 June 2020 in Ankara, Turkey.

The first METU ELT Convention took place almost 30 years ago and has been growing in popularity ever since as it supports continual growth and progress among researchers and practitioners. It aims to attract teachers, students, researchers, writers and trainers involved in English Language Teaching in and outside Turkey, providing them with a professional setting to present perspectives, promoting networking and stimulating discussion.

To this end, this year’s convention theme ‘Reflections’ is an open invitation to all interested in different walks of ELT to share opinions, experiences and reflections.

Proposal submission for the 14th METU International ELT Convention is now closed. We would like to thank all who submitted their papers.

COVID-19 UPDATE

Dear colleagues,

In the light of the current situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey and all around the globe, we regret to inform you that the 14th METU International ELT Convention has been postponed until around the same dates in 2021. While making this decision, we had to consider the safety of all our participants, as well as the current reality of travel bans, laws banning large gatherings and social distancing measures. We hope you will all understand and agree with this difficult decision.

We would like to inform you that papers, workshops, e-sessions and posters that are accepted for the 2020 convention are automatically accepted for presentation in 2021 (There will be a new call for graduate workshops, though, since the accepted ones may not be eligible for this session format next year due to the current stage of the study). If you have already registered and paid for the convention, you will soon receive an e-mail regarding the refund procedures.

We want you to know that we share your disappointment in this change of plans. Like you, we were looking forward to the Convention to give you the opportunity to meet new colleagues and catch up with the old ones, to enhance network and collaboration, and to learn more about the recent developments in the field. However, needless to say, health is our top priority, and we can only regard this as a delayed opportunity, rather than a missed one. We can assure you that we will be working even harder to deliver the best METU ELT experience you deserve next year, and we cannot wait to meet all our attendees in a more stable, healthy and safe atmosphere, having left all these dark days behind.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Best regards,

The Organising Committee
